Italy has ski resorts in two major areas: the Alps and the Dolomites. These are distinct areas with different characters and feel.
The Dolomites are home to the more traditional resorts such as Madonna di Campiglio, Cortina, Moena, Selva and Val Gardena. Here you will find dramatic sceneries, beautiful villages and large ski areas with a great choice of runs, especially for beginners and intermediates.
In the Alps, the major resorts are: Cervinia, Courmayeur, Bormio, Livigno and Sestriere. With the exception of Courmayeur and Bormio, which both benefit from beautiful historical villages, these resorts are more modern and geared towards winter sports. The ski areas tend to be located at higher altitude and a number of resorts are interlinked with neighbouring countries such as Cevinia with Zermatt, and La Thuile with La Rosiere in France. These places are great for early season or end of season skiing and snowboarding.
All these destinations have one thing in common: the warm and lively Italian lifestyle.
If you want to sample the dolce vita while discovering great ski resorts, Italy is simply a great choice.
